South African pre-orders for the new Mahindra XUV700 kicked off on 15 November and ran to the 30th, and during this time, a total of 1,100 customers put their names down on the order sheet.
This impressive number sets a new pre-order record for the brand both in South Africa as well as in its home country, India, said Mahindra.
Deliveries for the new SUV start on 10 December and customers who pre-ordered it have until the 7th to finalise their booking by paying a fully-refundable deposit of R5,000 at their nearest Mahindra dealer.
“Once deliveries start, Mahindra will reward the first 700 customers who have paid their R5,000 fully-refundable deposit in one of two very special launch packages,” said the manufacturer.
“Customers can opt for the free service plan and warranty extension up to 7 years, or ask for a set of running boards, a tow bar, and a R3,000 fuel card at no cost to them.”
The first happy owner of the new Mahindra resides in KwaZulu-Natal, and arrangements have been made for a hand-over next week.
XUV700 specifications
In the local market, the XUV700 is offered in a five-seater AX5 and seven-seater AX7 and AX7 L grades.
Across the line-up, buyers can expect a panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps with daytime-running lights, 17-inch alloys, and Mahindra’s new “Superscreen” infotainment system that comprises a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display alongside an infotainment system of the same dimensions playing through a six-speaker stereo.
Going for the more expensive AX7 will add leatherette upholstery, keyless start, an electric driver’s seat, a reverse camera, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver alert monitoring, and forward collision warnings with automatic emergency braking.
On the range-topping L, amenities further include blind-spot monitoring, a wireless phone charger, keyless entry, a 12-speaker Sony sound system, and 360-degree cameras.
Each of these Mahindras is then driven by a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol block generating 149kW and 380Nm, which mates to a six-speed automatic gearbox. This setup returns an average fuel consumption of 6.6l/100km and allows for a maximum towing capacity of 2,500kg.
