Bulletproof Nissan Patrol goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing

The luxurious Nissan Patrol can now be equipped with 360-degree bullet-resistant armour in South Africa, courtesy of SVI Engineering.

Two levels of discreet protection are available for the SUV namely B4, which offers resistance against handguns including the .44 Magnum, and B6, offering resistance against assault rifles up to the AK47, R5, and R1.

According to SVI, the B6 grade is the highest level of civilian protection available without a special permit.

Pricing for the armour are as follows:

Nissan Patrol 360-degree B4 Armour – R722,158 (excl. VAT)
Nissan Patrol 360-degree B6 Armour – R982,823 (excl. VAT)

These prices exclude the cost of the SUV itself, which is currently pegged at R1,683,900.

The build time for the bullet-resistant Nissan is set at around four months, said SVI.

The discreet armour for the Nissan Patrol was developed in-house by SVI using the “latest technology and top-quality imported materials,” said the company.

The package makes extensive use of composite materials, custom-fabricated steel plates in fixtures like the doors and pillars, and high-grade 38mm-thick ballistic glass that only allows the windows to open about halfway.

“To save on both cost and overall mass, the 360-degree B6 armouring package for the Patrol incorporates a rear bulkhead neatly integrated behind the second row,” said SVI.

A suspension upgrade is also included as standard to allow the large SUV to easily manage the additional mass of the comprehensive array of robust materials, as are strengthened door hinges and protection for critical under-bonnet components.

Fortunately, “the extra weight is no match for the Patrol’s burly naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine,” said the manufacturer.

On the optional extras list, buyers of the bullet-resistant Nissan can further add B6 roof and floor armour, a PA system, heavy-duty runflat tyre rings, and a bespoke SVI-designed bullbar for an additional cost.
