Road closures in Cape Town this week – Details

Due to the annual State of the Nation Address, the City of Cape Town will restrict access to certain routes around parliament and city hall over the upcoming week.

These roads are primarily in the central business district (CBD) and closures will take place in a phased approach from Monday, 6 February, until Wednesday, 8 February.

Parking will also be restricted in certain areas, and the restrictions are expected to influence normal traffic flow in and around the city bowl.

Detailed below are the road closures that will be in effect in Cape Town during the next week:


Phase 1

Closure of:

  • Corporation street – Between Darling and Longmarket street

Restrictions will be in place from 07h00 on 1 Feb until 23h59 on 28 February.


Phase 2

Closure of:

  • Darling street – Between Buitenkant and Lower Plein street
  • Parade street – Between Darling and Caledon street
  • Corporation street – From Longmarket to Castle street
  • Castle street – From Corporation to Buitenkant street

Restrictions will be in place between 06h00 and 23h59 from 6 until 8 February.


Phase 3

Closure of:

  • Buitenkant street – From Castle to Glynn street (including all side streets)
  • Roeland street – From Buitenkant to Brandweer street
  • Harrington street – Between Darling and Roeland street
  • Roeland street – Closed up from Hope to Brandweer street
  • Parade street – Between Caledon and Darling street
  • Caledon street – Between Parade and Corporation street

Restrictions will be in place between 17h00 and 20h00 from 6 until 9 February.


Phase 4

Closure of:

  • Roeland street – From Brandweer to Plein street
  • Commercial street
  • Buitenkant street – From Glynn to Castle street
  • Darling street – From Sir Lowry to Plein street
  • Caledon street – From Corporation to Buitenkant street
  • Corporation street – From Darling to Albertus street
  • Parade street – Between Albertus Sand Darling street

Restrictions will be in place from 20h00 on 8 February until 23h59 on 9 February.


Phase 5

Closure of:

  • Darling street – From Lower Plein to Corporation street
  • Longmarket street – Between Plein and Corporation street
  • Corporation street – Between Longmarket and Caledon street
  • Longmarket street – Between Plein to Buitenkant street
  • Longmarket street – Between Plein to Buitenkant street

Restrictions will be in place between 06h00 and 23h59 on 9 February.


Phase 6

Closure of:

  • Klipper Road, Newlands – From Main Road (M4) to Newlands avenue
  • Princess Anne Avenue, Newlands – From Newlands to Union avenue
  • Newlands Avenue, Newlands – From Dean street to Princess Anne avenue
  • Dean Street, Newlands westbound – From Main road (M4) to Newlands avenue
  • M3, Union avenue, Rhodes drive, Philip Kgosana drive (De Waal drive)
  • Roeland Street, City Bound Carriageway – From Newlands avenue to City Centre
  • Woolsack Drive, Rondebosch, westbound – Between Main road (M4) and Rhodes drive (M3)
  • Anzio Road, Observatory – From Main road (M4) to Philip Kgosana drive (De Waal drive) (M3)
  • N2 Settlers Way City-bound carriageway – From Main road (M4) to City Centre
  • Roeland street – Between Buitenkant and Brandweer street
  • Buitenkant street – Between Roeland and Darling street

Restrictions will be in place between 17h45 and 20h00 on 9 February.
