Mitsubishi has announced that the world premiere of the brand-new Triton will take place in just over one month’s time on 26 July.
The bakkie has seen a full redesign and will be making its first international appearance in Thailand before going on sale in markets around the world.
“The Triton is Mitsubishi Motors’ global strategic model that has been well-received in the ASEAN region, Oceania, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and other markets for its durability, robustness, and drivability, as well as comfort and ride quality required for private use,” said the company.
It was previously revealed that the new 4×4 would launch in “the fiscal year 2023,” meaning deliveries should commence anytime between August 2023 and March 2024.
What to expect
The Japanese automaker is still keeping most details surrounding the new car on the down low, but it did state that the upcoming model would feature a “beefed-up body” and a new styling theme with three-dimensional headlights and daytime running lights intended to resemble a hawk’s gaze.
“The all-new Triton has been completely reimagined under the design concept Beast Mode, or audacious and daring,” said Seiji Watanabe, division general manager of design, Mitsubishi Motors.
“While expressing the toughness and powerfulness expected of a pickup truck, the all-new Triton combines agility with the brand’s robust design to create an imposing look. Tough and reliable, the all-new Triton will make customers want to go on any adventure.”
Mitsubishi has provided teaser images of the vehicle shrouded in darkness, as well as a brief trailer depicting the full body in camouflage. It also shows a single shot of the interior, revealing a large infotainment screen with physical buttons in the centre of the dashboard.
While not confirmed, it is expected that the new Triton, now in its sixth generation, will share the same platform as the Nissan Navara thanks to the partnership that exists between Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi.
No information has been released with regard to the engine line-up, but as a reference, the current models are equipped with a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel drivetrain with 133kW and 430Nm.
