New Mitsubishi Xforce coming to South Africa – What to expect

Mitsubishi has officially revealed the new Xforce, a compact SUV that’s expected to replace the long-running ASX.
The crossover was initially teased a week earlier, with the first details and concept images being published online, but the new car has officially been unveiled today at the 30th Gaikindo International Auto Show in Indonesia.
Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA) confirmed that the car would see a local introduction, but has not provided a launch date, so it’s likely we can expect the Xforce a few months after it makes its initial debut in ASEAN markets in November 2023.
What to expect
The Xforce will be powered by the same 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine found in the Xpander, giving it an output of 77kW and 141Nm.
It uses a front-wheel-drive setup and is exclusively paired with a CVT transmission, and while the automaker has not provided a fuel consumption figure, it will likely be similar to the Xpander’s 7.0l/100km usage stat.
Despite only being available as a 2WD model, it will have four driving modes for Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud, as well as the brand’s rally-inspired Active Yaw Control system that controls the driving and braking forces between the right and left wheels.
It also has a ground clearance of 222mm, thanks in part to 18-inch alloy wheels and large diametre tyres, and a wheelbase measuring 2,650mm.
Regarding its dimensions, the Mitsubishi clocks in with a length of 4,390mm, a width of 1,810mm, and a height of 1,660mm, making it comparable to something like the new Toyota Urban Cruiser or the Suzuki Grand Vitara.
As for its features, the Xforce is equipped with automatic climate control, a stain-resistant “mélange” fabric upholstery, ambient lighting, a cooled centre storage console, a wireless charger, USB type-A and type-C ports, and a Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium sound system with no fewer than 8 speakers.
The dashboard is then dominated by a dual-screen arrangement consisting of a 12.3-inch infotainment monitor and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster.
Visually, the SUV has a set of T-shaped daytime running lights and LED headlights, and the body has been designed to appear both muscular and modern to suit the city and the great outdoors, according to the automaker.
More details on the Xforce, including its pricing and finalized equipment list, will be revealed closer to its local launch date.
