R120,000 Peugeot Warrior upgrade kit coming to South Africa – What you get

Stellantis South Africa has announced that it will give fans their first peek at the Peugeot Warrior at this weekend’s Festival of Motoring in Midrand, Gauteng.

The Warrior is an enhanced version of the Landtrek bakkie, featuring unique accessories “and an exciting package of options to create additional appeal in the range,” said the automaker.

Rather than being a new model, the unit on display at FoM is a one-off example, with the Warrior kit to be made available on both the base Landtrek Allure and top-spec 4Action in the near future to the tune of R120,000, according to a Times Live report.

What you get

The Warrior upgrade pack brings about several off-road-focused enhancements that elevate the Landtrek’s rugged abilities.

If selected, the kit sees the fitment of Old Man Emu suspension that increases ground clearance by 40mm to an impressive 275mm, making it easier to accommodate the chunky new 18-inch Gripmax Mud Rage tyres with a special pattern that makes it harder for mud and debris to get lodged inside the tread.

It’s currently unclear whether the additional height will positively impact the Landtrek’s maximum water wading depth, which stands at 600mm for the standard model.

Additionally, the optional extra brings a full-face bull bar with wrap-around headlight and bumper protectors, and at the back, it comes with a Wildog rear bumper.

As it is mostly cosmetic and not mechanical, the Warrior kit won’t affect the Peugeot’s engine credentials.

As such, buyers can look forward to a 1.9-litre, turbo-diesel powerplant generating 110kW and 350Nm, matched with a six-speed automatic shifter.

If the base model is chosen, the bakkie only turns the rear wheels and achieves a fuel consumption of 8.9l/100km, and opting for the flagship will see it ride atop four-wheel-drive underpinnings with a rear diff lock, returning an average fuel spend of 9.1l/100km.

Both Landtreks also support a payload capacity of one tonne and a towing capacity of three tonnes.

As standard, the bakkie offers automatic eco-LED lights with headlamp leveling, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, leather seats, bi-zone climate control, a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electric front seats, cruise control, hill start and descent assist, parking sensors, and lane-keep alert.
