The 2023 Festival of Motoring is just around the corner, as the three-day event is scheduled to run later this month from Friday, 25 August to Sunday, 27 August, at the Kyalami Gran Prix Circuit in Midrand, Gauteng.
The festival promises a weekend packed full of exciting automotive action for people of all ages, including new car announcements, supercar galleries, video games, live entertainment, and interactive events like off-roading, drifting, and hot laps around the main circuit.
What you can expect
The Festival of Motoring will be spread out across four zones of the Kyalami premises – labelled the green, red, yellow, and blue zones.
The green zone is situated at the main building with the pit lanes, where anyone with a general ticket can go for a ride around the ex-F1 circuit in a performance car with a qualified driver.
There are also a handful of options, including BMW’s M cars and Shelby Mustang models, that visitors can experience at an additional cost.
This area also connects to the showroom where people can check out a wide variety of the latest vehicles that are currently on offer or are set to go on sale in the near future. Last year this included models like the BMW M2, which only recently made its official debut in local storefronts.
Next up is the red lifestyle zone, which houses the entertainment area with live performances, merchandise vendors, numerous food stalls, and attractions intended for younger visitors.
This will also be the first year that a dedicated cycling village is set up for those with an interest in non-motorized transport.
The yellow zone is where you’ll find the handling and drift events; the former letting you get behind the wheel of various new cars for a quick lap around the handling course, while the latter will have you on the edge of your seat as a skilled drifter takes you on a dizzying course in an enclosed arena.
There’s also a go-kart facility for friends and family to get hands-on experience competing with one another.
Finally, the blue zone is located outside the main premises and will necessitate the use of shuttles to get to, as it’s where all the 4×4 action is taking place.
It’s here that you can expect a go in all the best 4×4 SUVs and bakkies, navigating steep banks and other hazards.
So far, the organizers have confirmed that Abarth, Alfa Romeo, BAIC, BMW, Chery, Citroen, Fiat, Ford, GWM, Isuzu, Kia, Jeep, Mini, Mopar, Omoda, Opel, Peugeot, Porsche, Proton, and Suzuki will be in attendance, but there’s a good chance there will be plenty more making an appearance on the day the checkered flag drops.
