New Subaru Outback for South Africa – Starting at R699,000

Subaru South Africa has announced that the all-new Outback SUV will be available in South Africa from 1 May 2021.

The new Outback sports the more powerful 2.5-litre Boxer engine, along with improved features and dynamic capabilities.

“The all-new Subaru Outback is the most advanced, most capable and safest car in the brand’s history,” said Subaru.

What’s new

The new Outback debuts several new technologies for the brand, including a hands-free tailgate functionality that works by waving your hand in front of a rear sensor to let the tailgate lower electronically.

Also, for the first time on an Outback, DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System makes use of cameras and facial recognition to monitor and warn the driver of fatigue or lack of focus on the road.

Furthermore, safety and convenience is provided by the same system – and it can automatically adjust the driving position and mirrors to pre-programmed settings for up to five drivers.

The Outback was then treated to the latest in-car design and cabin architecture from Subaru, and features an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen with swipe, drag, and touch features.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is also present, and four USB ports are standard across the range.

From a safety standpoint, the Outback is at the front of the pack.

The EyeSight system, along with sophisticated structural design elements, enables autonomous corrective steering, improved lane keeping, vibration feedback, and a wider field of view.

This is in addition to the standard EyeSight features from previous-generation cars.

For its power, the Outback gets the brand’s new 2.5-litre direct injection Boxer engine that is mated to an automatic transmission.

South African pricing

In South Africa, the Outback will be offered in two trims – Field and Touring.

The Field model adopts a more rugged design, while the Touring model features more urban elements.

Local pricing for the new Subaru Outback range is as follows:

  • Subaru Outback 2.5i Field ES – R699,000
  • Subaru Outback 2.5i Touring ES – R729,000

Each model is sold with a 3-year/75,000km maintenance plan along with a 5-year/100,000km warranty.
