Springbok World Cup Trophy Tour arrives in Cape Town today – Route and road closures

The Springboks are continuing their hard-won victory lap of the country with a stopover in Cape Town on the 3rd of November that will give fans a chance to celebrate alongside the team as they parade through the city streets with the Webb Ellis Cup.

Having secured a nail-biting victory against the New Zealand All Blacks this past weekend, the Boks were first welcomed home when they touched down at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Gauteng before going on to tour the metros of Pretoria and Johannesburg in their green and gold bus.

The rugby team still has plenty of activities to go before they take a well-deserved break with several events planned in many of South Africa’s biggest cities, but for now, it is Cape Town’s turn to celebrate alongside the boys in green.

“Let’s thank the boys for inspiring a nation and show them we are proud of their incredible performance, not only in the final but throughout the tournament,” said the city’s mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis.

“It is our honour as Cape Town to receive the team and the Mother City is ready to give the Springboks a hero’s welcome.”

Road closures to be aware of in Cape Town

The victory procession will mostly be concentrated around Cape Town’s central business district (CBD), Langa, and Bonteheuwel, with a concert being held in front of City Hall and the festivities kicking off at 10h00.

At noon, the team bus will depart by turning left into Adderley Street and continuing on towards Wale Street. There it will turn left into Long Street and then right into Buitensingel, and then right again into Loop Street.

From there it will travel along Loop Street and turn right into Wharf Street, then left onto Walter Sisulu and left again onto Buitengracht Street.

Next, the Boks will go left into Hans Strijdom and back towards Adderley Street begoring turning towards Hertzog Boulevard. This will then lead onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard, which the bus will use to reach Bunga Avenue.

Afterwards, the bus will turn right into Briton Street and right again to Jungle Walk, before proceeding to Langalibalele Drive. From there the team will move onto Jakes Gerwel and cross over into Jakkelsveli Avenue.

For the final stretch, the Springboks will turn right into Valhalla Drive, then right onto Robert Subukwe Drive before wrapping things up and heading to Cape Town International Airport.
