The updated Audi Q7 has finally arrived in South Africa, bringing a number of welcome changes to the premium SUV.
The Q7 is available in two trim levels – Platinum Edition and Black Edition – with prices starting at R1,958,000.
In January 2025, the automaker will also introduce the revised SQ7, with its price tag to be revealed closer to its launch date.
Features
The alterations to the SUV start with the exterior, which is sporting new air intakes, and a reworked Audi Single octagonal grille and vertical inlays.
For the first time ever, the Q7 now comes standard with Matrix LED headlights, which can be further upgraded to HD Matrix headlights with the Audi Laser Light.
The laser lamps consist of 24 LEDs and a high-power laser diode, and are recognizable thanks to a subtle blue ambient light incorporated into the design.
The Audi Laser activates when travelling at speeds over 70km/h and significantly increases the high beam range.
The automaker has also fitted new digital daytime running lights with selectable light signatures, and owners can choose to install digital OLED taillamps at additional cost.
Anyone who picks up the Black Edition can additionally expect a number of dark-themed accents on components like the window frames, and front and rear bumpers.
The SQ7, meanwhile, has a unique honeycomb grille with aluminium accents for the side mirrors, frame inlays, and side air intakes.
There are also three new paint schemes Sakhir Gold, Ascari Blue, and Chili Red, and five different wheel designs for the alloy rims that measure 21 or 22 inches in size, depending on the model.
Shifting to the interior, the Audi’s seats now have a grey colour scheme with a contrasting stitch pattern, and the cabin inlays can be customized with nine different colour combinations including new options like Natural Elm Burl Silver, Matte Carbon Twill, and Matte Brushed Aluminum.
The manufacturer has also updated the Audi Virtual Cockpit, comprising a digital driver display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
The media system can now support third party apps, while the instrument cluster can visualize road information from lane changes to following distance warnings.
Finally, the Parking Assist Plus programme has been included as standard, which can detect open parking spaces and automatically maneuver itself into position.
Engines
The Q7 is equipped with a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged V6 petrol engine, which produces a generous 250kW and 500Nm.
This allows the seven-seater SUV to race from 0 to 100kmh in 5.6 seconds despite its size, and it can also reach an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
An eight-speed automatic gearbox negotiates inputs down to the Quattro all-wheel-drive system, which results in an average fuel consumption of 9.9l/100km.
The SQ7, meanwhile, boasts a 4.0-litre V8 plant with an output of 373kW and 770Nm, which shortens the Audi’s 0-100km/h time to just 4.1 seconds, though it has the same governed top speed of 250km/h.
The Q7 comes standard with electronically controlled air suspension and continuously adaptive damping for greater comfort, while the SQ7 has adaptive air sport suspension for better handling.
In either case, the Audi can adjust its ride height by up to 90mm depending on its current speed and the type of road its on.
On the highway, the base height is lowered by 30mm, while selecting the Off Road mode will raise the ground clearance by 60mm at low speeds.
