New Opel Grandland launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Opel has officially launched the next-gen Grandland in South Africa, adding a new family SUV option to its local catalogue.

The new SUV is now on sale in a single GS Line specification at a starting price of R789,900, positioning it as the flagship of its SUV roster.

Each purchase comes with a 5-year/100,000km warranty and roadside assistance plan, as well as a 5-year/90,000km service plan.

Engine

The Grandland is fitted with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which develops 134kW and 300Nm.

Gear changes are handled by a six-speed automatic transmission, which connects to the front wheels.

This results in a combined fuel consumption of 7.0l/100km, which drops to 5.3l/100km when travelling on open roads with minimal traffic.

Opel has also added a new suspension system with frequency selective damping technology, which can adjust to road conditions like cobblestones or manhole covers to soften the ride for passengers.

It can also respond to the owner’s driving style, providing better road contact when engaging in sporty driving.

Features

Opel’s new SUV showcases many of the brand’s latest styling details, starting with a new “3D Vizor” with an illuminated Griffin logo at the front, and permanently illuminated Opel lettering at the back.

The vehicle is 4,650mm in length, 1,905mm in width, and 1,665mm in height, making it larger than the old model in every direction.

It is perched atop 19-inch alloy wheels and features Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD headlights, which can detect oncoming traffic and divert their beams to avoid dazzling other drivers at night.

The automaker has also added new welcome and goodbye animations with graphical projections, which play when the user approaches and leaves the car.

The Grandland also has a two-tone roof, which is meant to complement the sleek curves of the new body.

As for the interior, the dashboard is fitted with a digital instrument cluster and a 16-inch infotainment monitor with smartphone pairing.

The two screens are complemented by a new heads-up display, which allows drivers to keep track of vital info without taking their eyes off the road.

Owners can also engage a “Pure Mode” that simplifies the amount of content shown by all three displays, reducing the number of distractions when driving at night or in the rain.

The automaker has also kept a handful of physical buttons for frequently-accessed functions like the automatic climate control.

Ambient lighting strips can be found in the instrument panel and door inserts, and several panels have a soft-touch fabric finish.

The new seats are designed to improve back posture, using powered bolsters that improve lateral comfort.

The driver’s seat also has a ventilation and massage function.

Rear passengers have 20mm more legroom thanks to the increased length of the next-gen model, and all the seats are wrapped in 100% recycled materials.

Additionally, Opel has added a new “Pixel Box” storage solution made from illuminated translucid glass and fabric wrapping.

In total, the family SUV now has 35 litres of storage across its interior compartments, which includes the Pixel Box, as well as the bin under the centre console, door bins, and seat backrest pockets.

Lastly, the Grandland is equipped with a driver assistance suite that includes adaptive cruise control with a Stop & Go function, traffic sign recognition, lane-change assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system.

It also has “intelligent speed adaptation and in-crash braking,” which is designed to help avoid secondary collisions in the event of a crash.
