Volkswagen has announced that the all-new Tayron SUV is now available to pre-order in South Africa.
The Tayron is the brand’s penultimate SUV, slotting between the popular Tiguan and the flagship Touareg.
The company confirmed that the new vehicle will be made available in three specifications – Base, Life, and R-Line – though unfortunately, it has yet to disclose the official pricing.
The price list will be revealed closer to the launch date, which VW previously stated will take place sometime in the second half of 2025.
What is the Tayron?

The Tayron is the seven-seater equivalent to the Tiguan midsize SUV, serving as a replacement for the old Tiguan Allspace.
As a reminder, the Tiguan entered a new generation in September 2024, which means the new Tayron will display a similar level of technology and comfort.
All three trim levels are equipped with the same 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol (TSI) engine as the Tiguan, which produces 110kW and 250Nm.
This is linked to a seven-speed DSG (direct-shift dual-clutch) automatic gearbox, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 7.6l/100km.
Assuming that it follows a similar model selection to the Tiguan, the Tayron should be sold in both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations, with the latter benefitting from the brand’s signature 4Motion system.
It remains to be seen whether VW will also include the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (TDI) and 2.0-litre TSI powerplants found on the higher-end Tiguan models, which generate 110kW/340Nm and 140kW/350Nm, respectively.
Thankfully, the spec sheet is a lot more straightforward, as the carmaker has already disclosed the equipment included with all three trim levels.
The base Tayron comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, keyless entry and start, ArtVelours Eco microfibre upholstery, automatic air conditioning, nine airbags, a digital driver display, and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen.
Drivers also have access to adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, blind-spot detection, and a variety of driving modes for Normal, Eco, Comfort, Sport, Off-road, and Individual.
Importantly, the entry-level Tayron is only available as a five-seater.
Anyone who upgrades to the mid-range Life units can additionally look forward to illuminated VW logos at the front and rear, three-zone climate control, 10-colour ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an expanded driver aid suite.
The flagship R-Line, meanwhile, features a unique sporty bumper design, larger 19-inch Coventry alloy rims, Varenna leather upholstery with R-Line logos, ergo Active seats with heating and massage functions, and 30-colour ambient lighting.
Pricing will only be confirmed closer to the car’s launch, but as a reference, the Tiguan 1.4TSI currently retails for between R668,100 and R785,200, so expect the Tayron to start north of these sums.
