Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

Bakkies were a hot item in South Africa’s car market last month with thousands of models making their way into new homes.

The Toyota Hilux still reigns supreme, having moved a staggering 3,325 units in August, but the Ford Ranger also put up a good show with 2,066 sales.

Right on the Ranger’s tail was the Isuzu D-Max, which came third overall with 1,778 units.

The top three bakkies were the only ones to sell more than 1,000 units, illustrating their dominance over the local car scene.

That’s not to say there aren’t any other popular models, as the Mahindra Pik Up sold 675 units last month.

The GWM P-Series moved 557 units, while the Toyota Land Cruiser sold 446 units.

Seventh place went to the VW Amarok with 359 sales, putting it just ahead of the Nissan Navara in eighth with 333 purchases.

A relative newcomer on the block – the Foton Tunland G7 – then came ninth with 218 units, and the JAC T-Series rounded out the top 10 with 190 sales.

Overall, the top 10 bakkies sold a combined 9,947 units, accounting for 19.17% of the 51,880 vehicles sold in South Africa over the last 31 days.
