New limited-edition Chinese crossover launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

GAC has pulled the covers off a new limited-edition model for the Emzoom series in South Africa.

During last month’s Festival of Motoring, the Chinese carmaker debuted a new trim level for the Emzoon called the Nova, which will serve as the the entry point to the series.

However, the Nova has yet to be launched, and GAC has decided to fill the temporary gap with a new model called the Comfort Collection, which will be limited to 150 units.

The big selling point is that the Comfort Collection has the same price tag as the upcoming Nova, which will start at R359,900.

This makes it considerably cheaper than the previously entry-level model, the Comfort, which asks for R419,900.

In other words, motorists have an opportunity to pick up an exclusive version of the Emzoom at a R60,000 discount while they wait for the Nova to make its debut.

“GAC South Africa pulled the covers off the Emzoom Nova in late August at R359,900, but while we wait for its big arrival, the Emzoom Collection is here to keep the vibe alive, giving buyers an affordable entry into the range right now,” said the company.

What’s included

GAC hasn’t provided an official breakdown of the Comfort Collection’s spec sheet, but from what we can tell, it has the same kit as the Nova.

One thing that does set the Collection apart from the rest of the series is a set of bespoke decals and badges.

A black badge can be found on either side of the car with red-and-white “Comfort Collection” lettering, and there are decals on the back doors with red, white, and black stripes.

It also has LED headlights, auto-folding side mirrors, and a set of black 18-inch alloy wheels.

The rest of the equipment sheet appears to include keyless entry and start, a multifunction steering wheel, cloth seats, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

It also has a 3.5-inch driver display, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay.

Powering all of this is the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine found on the rest of the series, which pumps out a respectable 130kW and 270Nm.

This is sent down to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 6.2l/100km.

The new GAC Emzoom Comfort Collection is limited to 150 units, and each purchase is backed up by a 5-year/150,000km warranty, a 2-year/30,000km service plan, and the brand’s lifetime engine warranty.
