The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has published the official fuel price adjustments that will take effect later this week.
October saw a greater fluctuation in oil prices than previous months, with rates varying from $58 per barrel to $68 per barrel in response to geopolitical and trade tensions between the United States and China.
Even so, fuel price recoveries remained positive for most of October.
At the same time, the rand managed to hold its value with an average exchange rate of R17.30 per US dollar, with values swinging between R17.06 and R17.58 per dollar.
Overall, the rand appreciated against the dollar during the period under review at R17.30 compared to R17.45 over the previous month.
This, in turn, led to a lower contribution to the Basic Fuel Price of petrol and diesel by 10.597c/l and 11.703c/l, respectively.
In line with the provisions of the Self-Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism, the Slate Levy on petrol and diesel will remain at 0.00 c/l with effect from 05 November 2025.
The upshot of the lower oil price and a stronger rand is that South Africa will experience and over-recovery in fuel prices this November, meaning that motorists can look forward to a drop in prices.
What you’re paying this month
As always, the official adjustments will take effect on the first Wednesday of the month on 5 November 2025.
Both grades of petrol are set to go down by 51c per litre, while diesel users will enjoy a smaller reduction of around 21c per litre:

- Petrol 93 – Decrease of 51c per litre
- Petrol 95 – Decrease of 51c per litre
- Diesel 0.05% – Decrease of 21c per litre
- Diesel 0.005% – Decrease of 19c per litre
