New limited-edition Mercedes-AMG CLA for South Africa – Pricing and features

Mercedes-AMG has revealed that it is making the CLA 45 S Final Edition available to the local market, albeit in limited numbers.

The German automaker announced that it has reserved only fifteen units of the special edition four-door coupé for South Africa, which is priced at R1,721,234, VAT included.

It said the arrival of the Final Edition “introduces enhanced exclusivity” by offering curated edition-specific features, yet maintaining the high performance that has made the CLA 45 S popular.

The Final Edition is essentially a cosmetic upgrade to the existing model, and while it has styling features unique to the limited-run, it shares most of its internal makeup with the existing one.

Mercedes says this version combines precision engineering with a striking exterior to represent the pinnacle of the four-door coupé.

Included in the Final Edition’s seven-figure price tag is a 5-year / 100,000km service and maintenance plan.

Performance

In terms of drive and performance, the Final Edition is very much a better-looking CLA 45 S.

It shares the same powerful four-cylinder turbocharged AMG 2.0-litre motor found in many other AMG variants, as well as the GLA and GLC in their different performance levels.

The CLA 45 S, and subsequently the Final Edition, boasts incredible power outputs of 310kW and 500Nm of torque.

This power is delivered through an eight-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission to all four of the coupé’s wheels.

Thanks to the active, fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ drive system, power is distributed to the rear axle via AMG Torque Control on a wheel-by-wheel basis, allowing drivers to choose between traction or drift mode.

As a result, the CLA 45 S is no slouch, capable of racing from standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds, and reaching a top speed which is limited to 270 km/h.

Features

The limited run of Final Edition models available to South African customers features an exclusive Night Black finish, large 45 S lettering on the doors, and yellow AMG decals on the exterior mirror covers.

The sporty coupé is fitted with 19-inch matte black AMG forged wheels, brandishing edition-specific wheel hub covers which bear the AMG logo in yellow.

Smaller details include Mercedes’ decision to paint the Final Edition’s brake callipers gloss black to match the wheels, as well as add a silver chrome fuel cap with AMG lettering.

The AMG Night Package sees the special edition fitted with high-gloss black finishes on its exterior elements, as well as dark chrome tailpipe trims.

Those who opt for the AMG Night Package II will be treated to elements such as the struts of the radiator grille and badges finished in black chrome, making their Final Edition a real eye-catcher.

On the inside of the Final Edition are AMG Performance seats, upholstered in a combination of man-made leather and black microfibre.

Its seats, door panelling, and instrument panel all feature bright yellow topstitching, creating strong contrasts alongside the embroidered 45 S label in the front headrests.

Additionally, a special ’45 S Final Edition’ emblem on the centre console indicates this version’s uniqueness.

The Final Edition’s door-sill panels further demonstrate AMG’s attention to detail, as they feature an AMG pattern design in black and illuminate the AMG logo in yellow.

A special AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather and microfibre embellished with yellow topstitching and aluminium trim elements with adds further highlights to the interior.

Finally, floor mats with special AMG 45 S lettering and decorative stitching in yellow round off the Final Edition’s interior upgrades.
