South Africa’s car industry did phenomenally well in March, selling a grand total of 58,060 units.
The biggest contributor to this list was none other than the Toyota Hilux, which sold 4,118 units last month.
This is according to a report by The Citizen, using data from the Automotive Business Council.
Another bakkie, the Isuzu D-Max, came second with 3,008, and the VW Polo Vivo came third with 2,258, making it the top-selling passenger car.
The Ford Ranger ended in fourth place with 2,074 sales, and the Chery Tiggo 4 rounded out the top five with 1,888..
Next up is the Toyota Corolla Cross in sixth place with 1,536 sales, which was followed by the Hyundai Grand i10 with 1,410, and the Suzuki Swift with 1,400.
The Haval Jolion and Suzuki Fronx then came ninth and tenth with 1,262 and 1,179 sales, respectively.
Looking at the top 20, the Toyota Starlet placed 11th with 1,174 units, and the Nissan Magnite landed in 12th place thanks t 1,078 customers.
Two Mahindra models, the XUV 3XO and Pik Up, claimed the 13th and 14th spots with 1,063 and 1,037 sales, after which came the Toyota Fortuner with 1,000 units.
As for the final five, we have the Kia Sonet, Toyota Vitz, Omoda C5, VW Polo, and Toyota Urban Cruiser, each of which sold over 800 units last month.
