New 9-seater Renault launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Renault has officially launched the new Trafic Passenger in South Africa, marking the return of a nameplate that has been absent for almost two decades.

The Trafic is an upmarket people carrier, featuring a modular interior that allows for multiple seating configurations.

The French carmaker stated that the arrival of the Trafic Passenger forms part of Renault’s ongoing product offensive strategy and further strengthens the brand’s local offering in both the passenger and light commercial vehicle segments.

“Globally, the Trafic nameplate has earned a reputation for durability, practicality and adaptability,” it said.

“Similarly, in South Africa, the reintroduced Trafic Passenger now broadens the Renault range and establishes a unique people-moving solution designed for modern transport needs.”

The new Trafic Passenger is available in three specifications, the Evolution, Evolution+, and Techno+, and prices range from R979,999 to R1,049,999.

Engine

All three versions of the new Renault are powered by a 2.0-litre dCi turbocharged diesel engine, which provides a total of 125kW and 380Nm.

This is paired with a nine-speed EAG9 automatic transmission, which sends power to the front wheels.

As a result, the people carrier achieves an average fuel consumption of roughly 7.2l/100km.

Features

The defining aspect of the Trafic Passenger is that it can seat up to nine people, depending on the seating configuration.

“Designed as the ideal partner for every journey, the Renault Trafic Passenger combines advanced technology and remarkable versatility in a vehicle capable of accommodating up to nine people, be it large families and business customers seeking a premium people-mover solution,” said the company.

At the front, you’ll find a dashboard with a digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment screen, the latter of which supports smartphone mirroring with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The vehicle itself comes standard with 16-inch wheel covers, C-shaped LED headlights, daytime running lights, and the revamped Renault diamond logo.

Customers can also add a number of optional extras to the exterior, such as roof bars, roof boxes, side steps, towbar options and illuminated door sills.

The higher-spec models will then add features like leather upholstery, a wireless charger, heated front seats, and 16-inch alloy rims.

Safety and assistance features on the new Trafic include parking sensors, a rearview camera, tyre pressure monitoring, cruise control, and six airbags. The top-spec models use a 360-degree camera.
