New VW T-Roc coming to South Africa very soon

Volkswagen has opened pre-orders for the new T-Roc ahead of its official market launch in South Africa in early September 2026.

Positioned between the Polo-based Taigo and the midsize Tiguan, the second-generation T-Roc will expand the German carmaker’s selection of T-SUVs alongside other names like the T-Cross, Tayron, and Touareg.

“Combining expressive design, premium craftsmanship and advanced technology, the new T-Roc raises the benchmark in the compact SUV segment while delivering the quality, innovation and driving experience synonymous with Volkswagen,” said the company.

Volkswagen Group South Africa confirmed that the vehicle’s pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.

As a point of reference, the current models retail for between R648,900 and R760,100, so expect the new version to fetch prices north of these figures.

The carmaker also stated previously that the T-Roc will make its debut at the Festival of Motoring, which is set to take place at the end of this month, from the 28th to the 30th of August 2026.

What to expect

The new Golf-based crossover has been given a makeover, starting with new “hockey stick” silver styling extending from the A-pillar to the D-pillar.

It also has more muscular rear shoulders, and a new lighting signature designed to stand out from VW’s other T-SUVs.

All models will come standard with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and rear combination lights. The higher-spec derivatives will also feature VW’s IQ.LIGHT Matrix headlamps with dynamic light assist, and illuminated strips at both the front and back.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find new soft-touch material surfaces and an improved dashboard with the brand’s latest Digital Cockpit and a 10.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless App-Connect.

Other features include a leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, automatic climate control, fabric seats, a wireless charger, and electric seats with a massage setting, depending on the trim level.

The company said that Park Assist and a rearview camera will be included as standard, and that an optional IQ.DRIVE package will add functions like pedestrian and cyclist assist, rear traffic alert, an exit warning, lane-keep assist, traffic jam assist, and emergency assist.

As for the engine, the T-Roc uses a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol (TSI) powerplant that develops 110kW and 250Nm.

This is paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox, though it’s unknown at the moment whether the new models will feature a 4Motion option with four-wheel drive.

More information on the new VW T-Roc will be announced closer to its launch window in September.
