The pricing for the new Lexus ES has finally been revealed, more than a year after the car was first announced for South Africa.
Our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists alerted us to the fact that the new sedan is now listed on Lexus South Africa’s website.
The luxury model is available in three specifications, including a fully electric option, and prices start at R1,561,000.
What’s included
The new ES range consists of two trim levels, the EX and SE, the latter of which has access to two powertrains.
Kicking things off is the 350h, which uses a 2.5-litre petrol engine in tandem with an electric motor to produce 182kW.
Unfortunately, the Toyota Motor Group does not report the combined torque figures for its hybrids, so we only know that the engine develops 235Nm.
This power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT transmission, letting it accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds, while the top speed maxes out at 200km/h.
Thanks to the hybrid system, the sedan achieves a frugal fuel consumption of just 4.4l/100km, giving it a range of 1,250km on its 55-litre tank.
If you prefer something that uses no petrol at all, you can look to the 350e, an all-electric drivetrain that is only available on the SE.
The 350e uses a single front-mounted electric motor that generates 165kW and 267Nm, and is hooked up to a 74.7kWh battery.
It’s slightly slower than the hybrid models with a 0-100km/h time of 8.0 seconds, and its top speed caps out at 160km/h.
With its large battery, it can top 615km between trips to an outlet.
Equipment on the upmarket sedan starts with automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
It also has keyless entry and start, artificial leather upholstery, electric front seats with lumbar support, a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, automatic climate control, a digital driver display, and a floating infotainment screen.
Driving aids include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver attention monitoring, blind spot detection, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.
The ES models will then add adaptive LED headlights, heated and ventilated seats with memory settings, genuine leather upholstery, and a surround-view camera system.
