New special-edition JAC bakkie launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

JAC has expanded its flagship bakkie series in South Africa with the launch of the new T9 Black Edition models.

The special-edition derivatives form part of JAC’s Decade campaign, which celebrates nearly 10 years of operations in our market.

Based on the T9 Super Lux and Hunter trim levels, the Black Edition units live up to their name with exclusive cosmetic detailing meant to set them apart from the standard models.

“The T9 Black Edition 4×4 derivatives offer customers seeking a premium, luxurious 4-wheel-drive bakkie a distinctive blend of styling, special specification and an electronic diff-lock for enhanced off-road capability,” said Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa.

“Add outstanding fuel economy, comfort and passenger-car safety and drivability, and you have a versatile adventure vehicle equally suited to everyday use.”

The Black Edition is available in two specifications, and prices start at R629,900.

Engine

Both versions of the Black Edition – the Super Lux and Hunter – are equipped with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, though they have different outputs.

The Super Lux produces a total of 125kW and 444Nm, while the top-spec Hunter has a higher cap of 144kW and 487Nm.

In either case, you can expect a four-wheel-drive system, as well as a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, which help the vehicle achieve a fuel consumption of 7.8l/100km.

The 4×4 system can be engaged at speeds up to 80km/h. The bakkie also comes with Sport, Normal, Eco, and Snow driving modes.

Furthermore, the JAC has a low-range transfer case, a rear electronic differential lock, and it can tow up to 3,500kg.

Features

The Black Edition units are sold with exclusive visual cues that start with a black radiator grille, matt black 18-inch alloy wheels, and black roof rails, mirror caps, and exterior trim. A similar theme has been applied to the cabin, which is decked out in durable black leather.

The Hunter further distinguishes itself with Hunter-branded decals on the sides and tailgate. The bakkie also comes standard with branded nudge and style bars, a tonneau cover, tow bar, branded headrests and heavy-duty floor carpets.

This is all in addition to the kit found on the standard T9, which includes keyless entry, a leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control with rear vents, electronically adjustable front seats, a wireless charger, USB ports, 220V and 12V sockets, a 7-inch instrument cluster, and a 10.4-inch portrait infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Additionally, the bakkie has traction control, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, hill descent control, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and seven airbags.
