10 new SUVs you can buy for the price of a used Toyota Fortuner in South Africa

New data from AutoTrader shows that the average price of a pre-owned Toyota Fortuner is R505,639.

These models tend to be around six years old and have 104,316km on the odometer. Considering that the Fortuner is sold with a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 90,000km service plan, both will likely be expired by the time you purchase one second-hand.

However, for the same price, there are dozens of cars on the market that can be bought brand-new with a full warranty and service or maintenance plan.

This is something that motorists have started to cotton on to, as AutoTrader and financial service providers have noted a trend where buyers are returning to the new-car market in search of a better deal.

Surprisingly, many of the most competitive options come from Chinese brands, which are able to sell their cars new for the price of an equivalent used model from a legacy manufacturer.

This even includes hybrid and electric cars now, which are a more attractive option than ever due to 2026’s skyrocketing fuel prices.

As good as any vehicle are claimed to be. Out of warranty when something does go wrong you going to pay for that specific failed part + labour, outside of the purchase price.
