Nissan has announced that an all-new Z-car will be unveiled in New York on 17 August 2021.
The company made the announcement through an eight-second clip posted to Nissan USA’s Twitter page.
The tagline “It all begins with Z – 08.17.21” was the only element accompanying the video.
What to expect
To date, we have only seen a handful of pre-production photos provided by the company, along with the project name “Nissan Z Proto” – both of which were made public on 16 September 2020.
Speculators believe this new Z-car will be called the 400Z – following the 350Z and 370Z naming convention.
Previous announcements made about this car alluded to the fact it will be quite the departure from the conventional naturally-aspirated, analogue recipe on which its siblings were built.
Luckily, one fact that is already set in stone is that the seventh-generation Nissan Z-car will be available with a six-speed manual transmission.
For power, the new Z model is fitted with a V6, twin-turbo engine – but the company has not provided any official performance figures.
It then measures in at 4,382mm long, 1,850mm wide, and 1,310mm tall – making it longer and wider than the current 370Z.
The new Z also features a complete overhaul inside and out.
This includes headlights that “hark back to the Japan market-only 240ZG”, as well as taillights influenced by the look of those on the Nissan 300ZX.
In addition, this generation of Z-car will gain a carbon fiber front lip, rear bumper, and side skirts – along with 19-inch alloy wheels and dual exhausts.
Inside, the interior “seamlessly blends modern technology with vintage Z touches”, said Nissan.
A deep-dish steering wheel along with Z badging and yellow accents makes for a sporty cabin, and a large infotainment display with a fully-digital instrument cluster adds the modern element.
“With the Z, we’re bringing drivers the excitement of a pure sports car,” said Nissan.
