Here is the expected petrol price for November

A small petrol and diesel price cut is on the horizon this November, though motorists will ultimately be paying around R30 per litre for both fuels.

New data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) indicates that fuel prices are set to increase next month; however, these estimates don’t take the government’s tax cut into account.

Petrol is showing an under-recovery of between R1.20 and R1.32 per litre, while diesel is looking at a similar under-recovery of between R1.29 and R1.35 per litre.

This is mainly due to the international oil price, as Brent Crude has climbed from $96 to $115 per barrel since the start of October.

At the same time, the rand is slowly losing value against the US dollar, making it more expensive to import petroleum products.

The rand is currently trading at R16.57 per USD, leading to an under-recovery in the petrol and diesel price of 34c and 45c, respectively.

These are the CEF’s latest fuel price adjustment predictions at the start of the fifth and final week of October:

  • Petrol 93 – increase of R1.33 per litre
  • Petrol 95 – increase of R1.20 per litre
  • Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) – increase of R1.35 per litre
  • Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) – increase of R1.29 per litre

With just over a week to go until the official adjustments are made on Wednesday, 4 November, it is unlikely these figures will see any major fluctuations.

However, while prices are set to go up next month, the catch is that the South African government recently announced it would temporarily reduce fuel taxes to reduce the impact on consumers.

From 4 November to 1 December 2026, the General Fuel Levy will be reduced by R1.50 per litre for petrol, and R3.00 per litre for diesel.

Since the tax cuts are larger than the predicted fuel adjustments, motorists will actually see prices come down next week by a small amount.

The following table shows how fuel prices will be affected in November after the fuel tax is factored in, based on the current projections:
