Best-selling SUVs in South Africa

The SUV remained a popular choice in South Africa in January, with the top 15 models collectively selling 9,616 (23%) out of the 41,382 total new vehicles sold in the country during the month.

Following another record-breaking month for Toyota, the brand now sits at the top of the best-selling SUV, bakkie, and hatchback lists in the country.

Toyota achieved first and second place in the top-selling SUV category with its Urban Cruiser and Corolla Cross, respectively, followed by the Haval Jolion in third.

These three models were the only SUVs to sell over 1,000 units in January, with the VW T-Cross ranking fourth with 781 units moved.

Fifth place once again goes to Toyota for its Fortuner SUV.

Another staggering statistic for South Africa’s favourite automaker is the fact that the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, with a starting price of R1,283,200, sold 249 units.

The Haval H6 performed well in January, too, selling 394 units compared to 176 units in December 2021.
