7 new BMWs coming to South Africa this year – Details

South African motorists have a lot to be excited about in the coming months, as BMW has at least seven cars scheduled to arrive here before the end of the year.

The blue-and-white badge has already made waves in 2024 with the launch of the new X2 and 5 Series, but there’s plenty more still to come.

It’s a varied selection, too, as BMW plans to reinvigorate its roster at both ends of the price spectrum with an update to its most affordable model and an additional unit for its flagship SUV.

First up on the timeline is the facelifted 4 Series coupe, which will debut in the third quarter of the year alongside its high-performance counterpart, the M4.

The 4 Series will ship with both petrol and diesel engines that incorporate 48V mild-hybrid technology as part of a company-wide push to reduce emissions across its catalogue.

If that wasn’t enough, South Africa is lucky enough to be allocated 25 units of the limited-edition M4 CS, though this high-octane version will only arrive in the final quarter of the year.

The final three months of 2024 are shaping up to be a busy time for the Munich-based automaker, as fans can look forward to the return of M Fest at Kyalami in October where a few of these next cars will no doubt make an appearance.

This includes the next-generation 1 Series, complete with a hot hatch M135 derivative.

Again, the new powertrains will feature mild-hybrid underpinnings, though the manufacturer has yet to provide a full breakdown of the specs for these units.

The other newcomer is a big one, as it’s the updated 3 Series – one of BMW’s most iconic nameplates.

Like the 4 Series, the 3 Series will debut with its hot sibling, the M3, which is being sold in both Sedan and “Touring” (Estate) body styles for the first time in South Africa.

The final model is a bit of an enigma, as it concerns the XM Label Red, the most powerful BMW SUV to date.

It is an even more exclusive version of the standard XM that debuted in mid-2023 and has an incredible output of 550kW and 1,000Nm.

The Label Red’s pricing was first revealed in January this year, but there have been no announcements since.

The SUV is displayed on BMW South Africa’s website but is not actually available on the configurator, and it is not listed on the price catalogue that was last updated in April, so it seems like the company is still waiting for the opportune moment to reveal it to the public.

There is one other model in the pipeline, namely the next-gen X3, but this has yet to be officially unveiled and it is possible that the X3 will only go on sale in 2025, though there’s a chance it could arrive on local soil sooner than that as it will be built right here in Gauteng.

Lots to look forward to

These are all of the BMWs scheduled to arrive in South Africa in 2024, though it should be noted that a model could have its launch delayed into next year at short notice.
