Best-selling Chinese cars in South Africa

The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro was the best-selling Chinese car in South Africa in June 2024 with an impressive 1,172 sales to its name.

Chinese vehicles have seen a surge in popularity in recent years as more brands have entered the market, and a few badges can now be seen at the top of every month’s best-seller ranks.

Chery only re-entered South Africa in 2021 but has quickly cemented itself as one of the nation’s favourite carmakers thanks to its selection of value-packed SUVs.

The entry-level Tiggo 4 was the third most popular passenger car in the country last month, only losing out to Volkswagen and Toyota – two brands that have been operating here for decades.

The second-most purchased Chinese car in South Africa was the Haval Jolion with 736 units flying off the shelves, which recently saw a major update with the addition of its new Jolion Pro series.

Rounding out the top three is another Chery with the Tiggo 7 Pro, which has enjoyed a big uptick in sales since the introduction of the more powerful Max variants at the end of last year.

The Tiggo 7 Pro secured 352 new customers in June, putting it ahead of the next entry, the Haval H6, which moved 252 units.

Fifth place is taken by the first Chinese bakkie on the list, namely the GWM P-Series, though the pickup had a relatively slow month with just 162 units compared to the 500 or more units it can often push.

The remainder of the top 10 includes the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, BAIC Beijing X55, GWM Steed, JAC T-Series, and GWM Tank 300.
