The South African auto sector saw another major improvement in new-car sales in November 2024, and bakkies were a big part of that success.
The top 10 pickups accounted for a combined 8,854 units, representing 18.2% of all the models purchased in the 30-day period.
At the top of the hierarchy is the Toyota Hilux, which had a great month with 2,702 buyers, even if this was slightly lower than the 2,793 units it achieved the month prior.
Next up is the Ford Ranger with a compelling 2,248 units sold, followed by the Isuzu D-Max with 1,764 showroom victories – putting the top three in a different league to the rest of the nation’s bakkies.
That being said, the Mahindra Pik Up also did well with 699 transactions, more than double the numbers of the next entry, the Nissan Navara, which managed 344 sales.
The VW Amarok climbed up to sixth place thanks to 337 models moved, after which came the Toyota Land Cruiser which saw 290 examples rolling off the showroom floor.
The GWM P-Series, meanwhile, dropped from sixth to eighth place, pulling in 280 customers, and GWM’s more spartan Steed series came ninth with 108 sales.
As for the final slot, it was filled by the next-gen Mitsubishi Triton, which sold 82 examples despite having only been on the market for less than half a month.
