Best-selling hatchbacks in South Africa

March was a bit of a slow month for hatchback sales in South Africa, with several models selling less than they did in February.

The number one spot was taken by the VW Polo Vivo with 1,703 units transacted, bearing in mind it sold 2,187 examples the month prior.

The Suzuki Swift, meanwhile, sank to second place with 1,608 units – a significant drop from its previous 2,351 customers.

The Hyundai Grand i10 moved up to third place with 1,344 new registrations, followed by the Toyota Starlet in fourth with 1,075.

The final spot in the top five was then taken by the VW Polo, which sold a total of 932 units.

Next up were the Renault Kwid and Suzuki Baleno, moving 572 and 504 units, respectively.

Eighth place went to the Toyota Vitz with 322 showroom victories, and the Hyundai i20 kept its spot in ninth with 309 purchases.

Finally, there’s the Suzuki S-Presso, which closed out the top 10 with 216 sales.

In total, the top 10 hatchbacks accounted for a combined 8,585 units, representing 17.3% of the 49,493 vehicles sold in South Africa in March.
