The first half of 2025 is already over, and South Africans have evidently been hard at work getting their hands on every bakkie they come across.
The hardworking body type remains one of the most popular vehicle classes in the country, as evidenced by the sales figures for the first six months of the year.
To the surprise of no one, the Toyota Hilux is still the pack leader in this fiercely contested segment, selling a total of 16,526 units across its single, extended, and double-cab body configurations.
This gives it a substantial lead over every other pickup in the country, including its main rival, the Ford Ranger.
Of course, the Blue Oval had a fantastic turnout of its own, as the Ranger sold 12,398 units in H1.
Next up is the ever-reliable Isuzu D-Max in third place, which moved 9,846 examples.
Outside of the top three, the Mahindra Pik Up continues to enjoy a sizeable market share thanks to the 5,079 customers who picked one up this year (pun intended).
The Toyota Land Cruiser 79 closed out the top five with 2,879 units, while the Nissan Navara came sixth with 2,630.
Our first Chinese entry in the top 10 is the GWM P-Series, which sold 1,947 units and came seventh overall.
After this came the Ranger’s twin, the VW Amarok, with its 1,688 purchases.
Two more Chinese models then closed out the list, namely the Foton Tunland G7 and the JAC T-Series, which sold 1,688 and 1,089 units, respectively.
