The Chinese Adventure SUV taking South Africa by storm

The Jetour T2 is quickly establishing itself as one of the best-selling cars in South Africa, less than a year after it came out.

The T2 and its smaller sibling, the T1, are Adventure SUVs that made their local introduction in October 2025.

They are the first new models introduced by Jetour since the Chinese carmaker debuted in our market in 2024, offering something different to the urban-focused Dashing and X70 Plus SUVs.

In the short time the T2 has been on the market, it has rapidly grown its monthly sales, easily establishing itself as Jetour’s most popular vehicle.

According to the latest industry sales data from Naamsa, the T2 sold a total of 1,004 units in April 2026.

This makes it the eighth-best-selling passenger car in the country and the 11th-best-selling vehicle overall once you include light commercial vehicles like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Isuzu D-Max.

This marks the T2’s highest monthly sales to date, despite a challenging operating environment with rising fuel prices, economic uncertainty, and a shorter trading month.

“These April results reflect a significant increase on the already strong March performance of 646 units for the Jetour T2, particularly given that the model only launched in South Africa in October last year,” said the company.

“Cumulative sales of the Jetour T2 have now exceeded 4,000 units since launch.”

The T2’s sales are not far off the 1,100 achieved by the Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Corolla Cross, which is notable given that it is a much more expensive car.

It has a starting price of R569,900, compared to R303,900 for the Fronx and R420,700 for the Corolla Cross.

“We always knew the Jetour T2 would be a strong seller, given the international success of the model across multiple regions,” said Jetour South Africa Vice President, Nic Campbell.

“Its value proposition, design, technology and overall appeal positioned it well from the start, but these sales have truly exceeded our expectations.”

The T1 and T2 are among the more affordable Adventure SUVs in South Africa, costing considerably less than rivals like the R685,900 Toyota Fortuner, R752,300 Isuzu mu-X, or the R953,000 Ford Everest.

Furthermore, the T1 and T2 recently received new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, which promise to drastically lower fuel consumption at a time when petrol prices are at an all-time high.

Another factor that will likely aid with the models’ popularity is the fact that Jetour plans to produce vehicles in South Africa.

At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, the President of Jetour International, Mr Ke Chuandeng, announced that the company plans to assemble cars at Chery’s new factory in South Africa.

This follows Chery’s recent confirmation that it will acquire Nissan’s plant in Gauteng later this year.

“Mr Chuandeng’s announcement indicates that the increasingly popular T-Series, launched in South Africa in October last year, will begin local production at the plant from next year,” Jetour said in an official statement.

What the Jetour T2 offers in South Africa

The T2 is available in four specifications with one of three powertrains.

The base model, the Aspire, features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 125kW and 270Nm, which is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The higher-tier Xplora and Odyssey are fitted with a more potent 2.0-litre turbo-petrol block with 180kW and 375Nm, which connects to the brand’s XWD Intelligent all-wheel-drive system.

At the top of the range is the i-DM PHEV, which pairs the 1.5-litre engine with an electric motor, giving the car a substantial output of 265kW and 610Nm.

The e-motor is powered by an 18.4kWh battery, which provides an electric driving range of 90km.

Standard features on the SUV include 19-inch alloy rims, LED headlights and daytime running lights, keyless entry and start, automatic climate control, a leather multifunction steering wheel, faux leather upholstery with red stitching, and ambient lighting.

It also has a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Depending on the trim level, the T2 also comes with driving aids such as adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection, hill start assist, hill descent control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 540-degree camera system.

Each purchase includes a 7-year/200,000km vehicle warranty, a 7-year/75,000km service plan, and a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty valid for the first owner.
