Electric vehicles (EV) are known for their breakneck accelerations, thanks to the unique advantage of a battery-powered drivetrain’s instant torque delivery.
However, as new EVs are launched to replace traditional cars, a wider variety of electric powertrains are making it to market to cater to a larger crowd.
In the last year alone, BMW introduced three EVs to South Africa with varying outputs and body styles, with at least two more on the horizon.
Audi, too, launched six of its own EVs, Volvo debuted one with another one incoming shortly, and Mercedes-Benz committed to presenting no fewer than four battery-powered cars over the next year.
These vehicles join the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace, Mini Cooper SE, and Porsche Taycan – which have been on offer for quite a few years already.
As a result, buying an EV in South Africa no longer guarantees that mind-bending speeds will be at your disposal, and you will now have to shop more carefully if you want to conquer 100km/h in under five seconds.
