The R4.2-million BMW XM Label Red is a Super SUV killer – Performance compared

The new BMW XM Label Red is the most expensive and most powerful BMW that you can buy in South Africa today, clocking in at R4.2 million with an output that puts Ferraris and Lamborghinis to shame.

Following in the footsteps of the standard XM that went on sale in July last year, the Label Red is an even more premium offering that not only adds a host of red-themed cosmetic changes both inside and out, but has also seen the super SUV’s already impressive performance stats pushed to an insane new level.

Both models use a hybrid powertrain with a 4.4-litre TwinPower turbocharged V8 petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 25.7kWh battery, but the new version has been uprated to produce a mind-blowing 550kW and 1,000Nm – 70kW and 200Nm more than the regular model.

Consequently, the large SUV can rocket from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h, though this can be lifted to 290km/h with an optional M Driver’s Package.

It uses an xDrive all-wheel layout and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and its hybrid underpinnings even allow it to drive for 83km on nothing but the battery.

Other features helping out the BMW’s performance include a rear diff lock, electronically-controlled dampers, rear-wheel steering, active roll stabilization, and adaptive M suspension.
