Updated Honda HR-V launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Honda has updated the HR-V for South Africa, adding several new features to its penultimate SUV series.

The revamped HR-V has been reduced to a single Elegance specification, which replaces the previous Comfort and Executive variants.

The SUV now has a starting price of R539,900, which includes a 5-year/200,000km warranty, a 4-year/60,000km service plan, and a 3-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance plan.

Features

The HR-V has been given a subtle facelift with a redesigned, body-coloured grille that gives it a more distinctive presence on the road, according to the manufacturer.

At the back, you’ll find a new full-length LED taillight strip and a high-gloss bumper.

These additions are complemented by a set of dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels and an updated selection of paint colours.

This includes Crystal Black Pearlescent, Opal White Pearlescent, Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, and Ignite Red Metallic.

Inside, the seats are now made from eco-friendly leather, and the centre console has been reworked to be more ergonomic for users.

The console is fitted with two USB ports (Type A and Type C), as well as a 15W wireless charging pad.

Above this is an 8-inch infotainment screen, which offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Honda stated that the new Elegance is meant to offer the best aspects of the Comfort and Executive variants it is replacing, meaning it comes with the spec sheet of the latter at a better price point.

The expanded equipment list now includes a six-speaker stereo, smart keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and six airbags as standard.

The HR-V also comes with the brand’s SENSING safety suite, which includes lane-keep assist, emergency collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.

Engine

The facelifted SUV has retained its 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which produces 89kW and 145Nm.

It is front-wheel-drive, and features a CVT transmission.

As a result, the HR-V achieves an average fuel consumption of 6.0l/100km on a combined cycle.
