New Haval H6 plug-in hybrid launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

GWM has officially launched the new Haval H6 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) in South Africa.

The PHEV is the SUV’s most advanced powertrain to date and is positioned at the top of the range above the existing Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) units.

It is available in two specifications, and prices start at R699,900, making it the fifth most affordable PHEV in the country after the BYD Sealion 5, Chery Tiggo 7, Geely E5 EM-i, and BYD Sealion 6.

Powertrain

The new PHEV units are equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is assisted by one or two electric motors, depending on the model.

The single-motor version is front-wheel-drive and generates a sizeable 240kW and 540Nm.

The dual-motor option, on the other hand, features an intelligent all-wheel-drive (Hi-4) system and an impressive output of 268kW and 760Nm.

The company has not disclosed the size of the PHEV’s battery, though it did explain that the SUV has an all-electric range of 106km according to the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) standard.

It also claimed that when the battery and internal combustion engine are fully utilized, the car has a maximum range of over 1,000km.

The car additionally has a set of driving modes for Economy, Sport, Standard, and Snow.

Features

The PHEV is visually identical to the rest of the H6 series, but its positioning as the new flagship means buyers can expect plenty of features.

This includes automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free electric tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, and a set of 19-inch alloy rims with run-flat tyres.

Inside, it has a heated leatherette multifunction steering wheel, push-button start, a 50W wireless charger, leatherette upholstery, electric front seats with lumbar support and heating and ventilation functions, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, ambient lighting, and nine speakers.

On the dashboard, you’ll find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a heads-up display, and a 14.6-inch infotainment screen running the brand’s latest “Coffee” operating system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The Haval also has a number of driving safety and assistance functions, including six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, hill assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring, automatic parking, a 540-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian assist, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, blind spot detection, and driver fatigue monitoring.
