Mitsubishi has introduced the Triton Shogun to South Africa which assumes the leading position in the automaker’s popular bakkie line-up.
The new headliner is on the market for R809,990 which is R1,000 more than the previous top-spec model, the Triton Xtreme.
The Shogun treatment lends the double cab unique styling coupled with functional interior and exterior upgrades.
It should be the current-generation Triton’s last hoorah before the next-generation model arrives in the third quarter of the year.
Mitsubishi also has a Pajero Sport Shogun on the way to local dealers which it displayed to potential customers at last year’s Nampo agricultural show, though the official launch date of the enhanced SUV has yet to be announced.
Shogun specifications
The new Triton Shogun is distinguished from its namesakes by a black front bumper garnish and headlight covers, matte black front fog light covers, and darkened roof rails.
A bespoke Shogun sports bar presides over the load bin which is finished with a tonneau cover and tailgate lock. The rear lights feature similar matte black covers to those at the front and a tow bar is installed as standard.
To bolster its off-roading prowess, the special-edition Triton also receives Dunlop all-terrain tyres wrapped around exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels painted in black.
A matching black nudge bar is available as an optional extra.
Continuing to the interior, the Shogun gets a leather steering wheel, parking brake, and floor console finished with black-and-red stitching; as well as red needlework on the leather seats and door trimmings.
Additionally, it is fitted with a Sony infotainment system bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functionality.
Like the rest of the Triton range, the newcomer is propelled by a 2.4-litre, turbo-diesel engine matched with a six-speed automatic gearbox and Super Select II four-wheel-drive system.
Power output for this configuration is listed at 133kW and 430Nm and combined fuel consumption comes in at 8.3l/100km.
