GAC Motors has started the new year with a bang by announcing that it is slashing the prices of all its cars by up to R100,000.
The Chinese carmaker stated that it is engaging in a strategic price reduction initiative made possible due to positive forex rates through the end of 2024.
The company emphasized that the lower costs are not simply the result of temporary sales support or a promotional tactic, but are a response to an improvement in market conditions in South Africa.
“This price drop is a testament to our belief that consumers deserve to benefit directly from favourable forex movements,” said Leslie Ramsoomar, GAC Motor South Africa MD.
“This is a win for everyone — from our valued customers to our partners, who will see the fruits of our strategic investments in the market.”
What you’re paying now
GAC currently has two models in our market – the Emzoom and Emkoo SUVs – both of which have been affected by the new price changes.
Importantly, the cost-cutting has not influenced the brand’s industry-leading sales support, which includes a 5-year/150,000km general warranty and a separate lifetime engine warranty for the first owner.
The Emzoom also comes with a 5-year/60,000km service plan, while the Emkoo receives an expanded 5-year/100,000km plan.
The following table shows the price reductions for the GAC Emzoom:
Model | Old price | New price | Price difference |
---|---|---|---|
GAC Emzoom 1.5T Comfort | R469,900 | R419,900 | – R50,000 |
GAC Emzoom 1.5T Executive | R499,900 | R439,900 | – R60,000 |
GAC Emzoom 1.5T R-Style | R549,900 | R489,900 | – R60,000 |
Despite these cuts, there have been no changes to the equipment of the SUVs.
Buyers of the Emzoom can therefore expect to receive a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with 130kW and 270Nm, paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox that results in an average fuel consumption of 6.1l/100km.
In terms of features, the base Comfort is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, automatic aircon, a multifunction steering wheel, fabric/artificial leather seats, a 3.5-inch driver’s display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, cruise control, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, hill assist, and tyre-pressure monitoring.
The Executive is upgraded with full leather upholstery, second-row aircon vents, a 7-inch driver’s panel, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed limit control, and lane-departure warning.
As for the top-end R-Style, it also benefits from automatic headlights, an automatic tailgate, a sunroof, an electric driver’s seat, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, hill-descent control, a surround-view camera system, and a sporty body kit.
Shifting focus to the Emkoo, this is how much you will save following the price cuts:
Model | Old price | New price | Price difference |
---|---|---|---|
GAC Emkoo 1.5T Executive | R599,900 | R519,900 | – R80,000 |
GAC Emkoo 1.5T Executive Plus | R659,900 | R559,900 | – R100,000 |
The Emkoo uses the same 1.5-litre turbo block found in its smaller sibling, but comes with an expanded spec sheet that starts with automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, 18-inch alloys, keyless entry and start, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, Type-A and Type-C USB ports, a panoramic sunroof, electric front seats, faux leather upholstery, and six airbags.
This is on top of various assistance programmes such as a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, intelligent cruise assist, autonomous emergency braking, forward-collision warning, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot detection.
The range-topping Executive Plus also boasts larger 19-inch alloys, a wireless smartphone charger, a heads-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, an electric tailgate, and a self-park function.
