Affordable new Honda sedan launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Honda has launched the new Amaze in South Africa at a starting price of R254,900.
This wallet-friendly window sticker makes the Honda the third-most affordable sedan in the country, beaten only by the Proton Saga and Suzuki DZire.
The facelift brought new styling and features to the Amaze while barely raising its asking price, ensuring that it remains a value-oriented entry in the slowly shrinking segment.
As before, it continues to be sold in three specifications spanning two trim levels, two gearboxes, and one engine.
Amaze specifications
The new Honda Amaze boasts a revised exterior look that falls more in line with that of its crossover sibling, the Elevate.
It sees a brawnier front fascia underscored by stylish LED headlights connected with an edge-to-edge chrome strip on the nose.
A larger hexagonal grille and a new front bumper complement these fixtures.
At the rear, the Amaze sees restyled LED tail lamps as well as a bulkier apron, and it rides on redesigned alloy wheels measuring 15 inches across the line-up.
The Honda is also rather diminutive, as it measures only 3,995mm long, 1,733mm wide, and 1,500mm tall.
Boot capacity still comes in at a decent 416 litres despite its small dimensions.

The new entry-level Amaze Trend comes with keyless entry with walk-away auto locking, push-button start, climate control with rear vents, an 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch multi-info driver’s display, a multifuncion steering wheel, and four speakers.
Hill-start assist, a rearview camera, parking sensors, and six airbags are standard, too.
The pricier Amaze Comfort further brings a painted front grille, automatic headlights, front fog lamps, seatback pockets, “grain” inserts in the steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charger, and two extra speakers.
All versions of the Honda are driven by a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol block that churns out 66kW and 110Nm.
The Trend is only available with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the Comfort can be had with the manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Regardless of the chosen shifter, the sedan reports an average fuel usage of 5.5l/100km.
The CVT also sports paddle shifters behind the steering wheel for an added layer of control.
