New Kia Pegas compact sedan – South African pricing and features

Kia has introduced the Pegas, a new compact sedan that is now for sale in South Africa.

The Pegas provides one of the longer wheelbases of the A and B segment competitors – 2,570mm – translating into ample interior space alongside a generous boot capacity, said the company.

“The new Kia Pegas delivers a winning blend of value, roominess, safety, and technology,” said Kia.

Standard features

The Pegas follows a similar styling to the Rio hatchback, with a “tiger nose” grille on all specifications, while higher-end EX trims receive 14-inch alloy wheels and chrome details, too.

Inside, you are met with fabric seats on the cheaper LX grade, whereas the EX sports a faux-leather upholstery, a leather steering wheel, and chrome-coated door handles.

Across the range, every Pegas comes with:

  • Central locking
  • Rear-view camera
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Automatic headlights
  • Manual air-conditioning
  • All-round electric windows
  • Multifunction steering wheel
  • 7-inch infotainment display
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Furthermore, the top-of-the-line EX adds cruise control, front fog lights, side repeater lamps, and seat height adjusters.

Thanks to its body style, the Pegas can also carry up to 475 litres of cargo in the boot – while carrying five passengers.

On the safety side, the Kia Pegas offers ABS with electronic brake force distribution, all-round disc brakes, dual front airbags, and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.

The Pegas does not have its own official impact safety rating, but the Kia Rio – which shares the same platform as the Pegas – scored a 5-star ANCAP safety score.

Engine

The new Kia Pegas range is offered with one engine specification only in South African: a 1.4-litre petrol motor paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

The motor produces 69kW and 132Nm of torque, and sends power to the front wheels only.

Price

The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Kia Pegas are as follows:

  • Kia Pegas 1.4 LX Manual – R225,995
  • Kia Pegas 1.4 EX Manual – R236,995
  • Kia Pegas 1.4 EX Auto – R251,995

All models are sold with a 5-year/unlimited kilometre warranty with roadside assistance, alongside a prepaid 4-year/60,000km service plan.

Every customer will have a choice between five exterior colours when ordering their Pegas – Clear White, Titanium Silver, Blue Stream, Marcato Red, and Aurora Black Pearl.
