VW has unveiled its latest Golf R, which produces 235kW, delivers 420Nm of torque, and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.
The new sporty hatchback will also include a new all-wheel drive system as standard, designated as 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring.
“This intelligently networked system enables a new dimension of driving dynamics,” said VW – adding that it offers maximum agility and driving pleasure.
“A new rear final drive distributes the drive power of the turbocharged petrol engine in the Golf R not just between the front and rear axles, but also variably between the two rear wheels. This makes it possible to significantly increase the agility, particularly when cornering.”
The all-wheel drive is also networked via a Vehicle Dynamics Manager with other running gear systems, including the electronic differential locks and adaptive chassis control DCC.
“Thanks to this close integration of the different systems, the new Golf R offers optimum traction characteristics and neutral handling with the utmost level of precision.”
The Golf R will once again be the most powerful model in the Golf line-up, and along with its rapid acceleration it will travel up to an electronically-limited to 250km/h.
“However, the Golf R can also be ordered with an optional R-Performance package, which enables the top speed to be increased to 270km/h,” said the company.
This power is then paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) as standard.
In terms of availability, VW stated that pre-sales of the Golf R started in Europe this week.
