The South African pricing and specifications of the Peugeot Landtrek have been revealed, with this new bakkie starting at R579,900.
The Landtrek is locally available in a double-cab body style, with one engine and two equipment levels on offer.
Standard features
The entry-level Landtrek Allure, as reported by CARmag, features manual air conditioning with rear vents, fabric seats, a multifunction steering wheel, reclining rear seats, all-round electric windows, a cooled glovebox, a 3.5-inch driver’s display, and a 10-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice recognition, and a 10GB hard drive for storing music and photos.
Stepping up to the top-of-the-range 4Action trim brings keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, electrically-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, a slightly larger driver’s display, and integrated navigation.
Each Landtrek is then fitted with cruise control, hill start assist, hill descent assist, trailer sway control, and rear parking sensors – while, the top-spec derivative gets Peugeot’s advanced driver assist systems.
This comprises lane departure warnings, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, cornering lights, and 360-degree park assist facilitated through an array of exterior cameras.
Peugeot also claims that this bakkie provides class-leading cabin and storage space, with “at least 1,550mm” of elbow space and 50mm of knee space for rear passengers.
In addition, several storage pockets throughout the cabin offer 27 litres of space.
Performance
The Peugeot Landtrek line-up is driven by a 1.9-litre, turbo-diesel motor paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The setup generates 110kW and 350Nm, and is “designed to offer reduced daily life-cycle costs in combination with controlled mixed fuel consumption.”
Four-wheel-drive derivatives get four-wheel high and four-wheel low gears, too, while being fitted with an electronic rear differential with automatic disengagement.
The new Peugeot further boasts “one of the roomiest cargo beds on the market”, measuring 1.63m long, 1.6m wide, and 0.5m deep.
This allows a payload of 1 tonne in the Landtrek, as well as a towing capacity of up to 3 tonnes, said the company.
To enhance its off-road abilities, the bakkie’s approach angle comes in at 29 degrees, departure angle at 27 degrees, breakover angle at 25 degrees, and maximum water wading depth at 600mm.
A ground clearance of 235mm can then be expected with the standard 17-inch or 18-inch alloys.
Price
The South African pricing for the new Peugeot Landtrek, as listed on the Peugeot website, starts at R579,900 for the 4×2 Allure – while the 4×4 4Action starts at R669,900.
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,00km warranty, whereas service plans vary by model, said Peugeot.
