The new Nissan X-Trail is now available in South Africa with three models on offer.
Starting from R649,900, buyers of the X-Trail have an option between the Visia, Acenta, and Acenta Plus equipment levels, each one driven by the same powertrain.
In global markets, the SUV is available with four drivelines including three hybrids, though the local arm of Nissan confirmed to TopAuto that, for now, South Africa is only getting the petrol derivative and that “more information on specifications, which include powertrains, will be announced at the time of the various launches planned across Africa.”
Features
In Visia guise, the new X-Trail sees five cloth seats, LED headlamps with high-beam assist, an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a urethane multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry and start, manual airconditioning, paddle shifters, and 17-inch wheels.
Driver assistance systems include intelligent cruise control, hill-start and descent assist, a reverse camera with rear parking sensors, front collision warnings with emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and driver attention alert.
The mid-range Acenta derivative further receives a leather steering wheel and synthetic leather seats, heated and electric front seats, a sliding rear bench, dual-zone climate control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front LED fog lights, and 18-inch alloys.
Throw a Plus next to the Acenta badge and the Nissan brings seven leather-clad seats, automatic wipers and lights, a 12.3-inch central display with onboard navigation, a fully-digital driver’s display, an around-view monitor with moving object detection, a heads-up display, and 19-inch rims.
The sizeable SUV also boasts a boot with 585 litres of storage in the Visia and Acenta, while the Plus’s higher seating capacity results in a smaller 485-litre cargo hold.
Powertrain
Under the hood, all new X-Trails are fitted with a 2.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol motor putting out 135kW and 244Nm, combined with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which in essence functions like a normal automatic but does not have any physical gears.
The configuration is good for a 0-100km/h time of 10.4 seconds, a top speed of 195km/h, and a combined fuel consumption of 7.4l/100km in the Visia and Acenta, and 7.8l/100km in the heavier Acenta Plus.
The Visia and Acenta are also front-wheel drive while the Plus turns both axles, and bolstering the range’s capabilities is a standard-fit limited-slip differential as well as off-road and snow terrain modes in the flagship specification.
