Mitsubishi has revealed that the Eclipse Cross will be receiving a new special-edition Ralliart model.
The Ralliart is the fourth Mitsubishi to be announced at this week’s Nampo Harvest Festival in the Free State, alongside a new Triton, Outlander, and Pajero Sport.
The automaker also announced that these four units are but a portion of 10 new additions that it plans to launch over the next 12 months as part of an aggressive product rollout.
What’s new
Ralliart and Mitsubishi have a long history in the field of motorsport, with a particular emphasis on the iconic Dakar Rally stage.
It, therefore, comes as no surprise that the biggest change to this new Cross will be an athletic body kit and a variety of bespoke touches.
“Mitsubishi pioneered the sporty SUV trend with models like the Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution and we are thrilled to once again offer our customers a vehicle that allows them to pay tribute to the world of motorsport on a daily basis,” said Jeffrey Allison, the general marketing manager at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.
The unique body kit adds a new front diffuser, side extensions, rear diffuser, and a tailgate spoiler to the Eclipse’s stature, all decked out in red highlights with corresponding Ralliart and turbo branding.
It is exclusively available in a white-diamond body colour with 18-inch black alloy wheels, and a number of graphical idents have been added to give it that rally-inspired finish.
A similar treatment has been afforded to the interior, which now features Ralliart-branded carpets.
As for performance, the current range-topping Cross GLS Exceed is equipped with a 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol drivetrain generating 110kW and 250Nm.
Paired with a CVT transmission, the crossover is able to sprint to 100km/h in 8.9 seconds and its fuel consumption works out to 7.7l/100km on a typical cycle.
An official launch date for the Eclipse Cross Ralliart has yet to be confirmed, and the local pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
