Nissan has opened orders for the new, locally-produced Navara – at a starting price of R311,000.
The all-new Navara is available in single and double cab models, 4×2 and 4×4 drive, and with a petrol or diesel engine.
“Drivers of the all-new Navara will experience significantly enhanced balance, superb handling, and heightened performance,” said Nissan.
This is due to a new chassis with revised mountings, increased rear height, better shock absorbers, and a new suspension system.
Nissan added that the condition of the South African road system was also accounted for during the fine-tuning of the bakkie’s ride.
Practicality
A big focus for the new Navara is its practicality.
This is accounted for as the bakkie can be driven in both 4×2 and 4×4 modes.
In 4×2 mode, it will be at its most fuel efficient. In 4×4 mode, the vehicle constantly monitors surface conditions and adjusts the balance of power between the front and rear axles to maintain optimal traction.
It can also shift from the one mode to the other at speeds of up to 100km/h, thanks to the “shift-on-the-fly” 4×4 gearbox.
“New Navara drivers also have the option to select low range 4WD (4LO) for difficult terrain,” said the company.
It features an active brake limited slip differential, too, which manages power delivery and wheel braking between all the wheels.
In terms of capacities, the new Navara can fit 100kg more in the bin than its predecessor. This brings the total supported payload capacity to 1,172kg.
Towing a trailer is made easy with a trailer sway control system, and vehicle stability control helps with keeping the bakkie in a straight line.
The majority of the new Navaras are then powered by a 2.5-litre, turbo-diesel motor that generates 120kW and 403Nm of torque.
An entry-level model comes with a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 118kW and 233Nm.
Buyers will have a choice between automatic and manual transmissions, and purely 4×2 models are available as well.
Features
Inside the cabin you will find an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports NissanConnect, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It is also fitted with Nissan Intelligent Mobility, which comprises automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, and high beam assist.
Price
All the new Nissan Navara models are sold with a 6-year/150,000km warranty and a 6-year/90,000km service plan.
Deliveries are projected to start in June 2021.
The cheapest new Nissan Navara is the entry-level 2.5 Petrol XE 4×2, with a South African starting price of R311,000.
The most expensive Navara 2.5D Pro-4X 4×4 then comes in at R740,000.
