New Chinese 4×4 SUV coming to South Africa very soon

Jetour is gearing up for its first new car launch since the brand debuted in South Africa last year.

Since its arrival in September 2024, the Chinese carmaker has sold two SUVs known as the Dashing and the X70 Plus, which are primarily aimed at families living in urban areas.

Jetour is not a one-trick pony, however, as the company’s next car is going in a completely different direction.

Enter the T2, which is the first in a series of outdoor-themed Adventure SUVs that will feel right at home in one of South Africa’s national parks.

Back in September, Jetour confirmed that the T2 is one of seven new cars the automaker has lined up for our market, which will eventually new additions to the Dashing and X70, the new T0, T1, and T5 SUVs, and an all-new bakkie called the P5.

The last of these products is only expected to appear in 2027, but the T2’s launch is right around the corner, as the brand previously noted that it would arrive sometime in mid-2025.

The T2’s appearance has been likened to that of the Land Rover Defender and other familiar Adventure SUVs, all of which have a fairly tall and block structure.

At the front, it has a small rectangular grille with protruding blocks that spell out Jetour’s name.

This is flanked on either side by a set of square Matrix LED headlights, which are surrounded by four LED daytime running light strips arranged in a plus pattern.

It also has a larger black bumper with a visible underbody bash plate, and flared black wheel arches and side steps.

In terms of size, it measures 4,785mm in length, 2,006mm in width, and 1,870mm in height, with a minimum ground clearance of 220mm.

As a reference, this positions it between the three-door Defender 90 and five-door Defender 110.

Depending on the market, it’s equipped with one of two turbo-petrol drivetrains comprising a 1.5-litre or a 2.0-litre engine both paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The 1.5-litre block generates 135kW and 290Nm and is only available with a front-wheel-drive setup, whereas the 2.0-litre mill produces 187kW and 390Nm and can be had with the brand’s “X Wheel Drive” selectable 4×4 system.

Provided you choose the latter, you can also expect a central and rear limited-slip differential and seven drive programmes for Economy, Normal, Sport, Snow, Mud, Rock, and X Smart.

It also has a “Creeping” mode that functions like off-road cruise control, and hill-climb and hill-descent control.

On top of all this, the Jetour comes with a rather generous equipment sheet that includes 18-inch alloys, a leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, six speakers, and heated and ventilated seats with electric adjustment.

The dashboard is fitted with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and an intelligent voice assistance.

Driver aids then take the form of adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane-keep assist with departure warning, forward and rear-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, advanced emergency braking, traffic jam assistance, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

More information on the Jetour T2, such as its pricing and model lineup, will be revealed once the car is officially launched in South Africa.
