7 new Jetour cars coming to South Africa – Details

Jetour may have only just launched in South Africa, but it already has an extensive roadmap planned out for the next three years.

The carmaker has ambitious plans for our market, as it wants to become a top-three Chinese brand in South Africa before the end of 2024 despite only having three months left to do so.

This is only the start, however, as Jetour wants at least one of its vehicles to make it into the top 10 best-selling cars list by December 2025, after which point the goal will be to become a top 10 brand in 2026, and a top five brand in 2027.

To achieve these lofty objectives, the Chinese manufacturer intends to introduce at least seven more vehicles to our roads between 2025 and 2027.

As ambitious as can be

Jetour made its debut this September with two new midsize SUVs called the Dashing and the X70 Plus, which are both available in two trim levels for a total of four models.

These are just the start of what’s to come, however, as the brand has another three units lined up for South Africa in 2025.

The first two will be a new flagship “Deluxe Pro” specification for both the Dashing and the X70 Plus, which will join the existing Momentum and Deluxe options.

It’s worth noting that Jetour has not divulged the specifications or pricing for any of the vehicles coming to South Africa, but a few of its products are already available overseas, which should give us an indication of what to expect.

In the case of the Dashing and X70 Plus Deluxe Pro, it’s unclear whether they will use the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the existing entries or if their flagship status will upgrade them to the 1.6-litre turbo found in other markets.

For reference, the 1.5l block produces 115kW and 230Nm, while the 1.6l ups the ante to 145kW and 290Nm.

Considering these SUVs are already generously equipped with modern technologies, it seems probable that a more potent powertrain would be the main draw card of the upcoming Deluxe Pro derivatives.

The other model launching next year is the T2, which is bringing something different to the table as an off-road themed SUV, in contrast to the city-focused Dashing and X70.

The T2 features a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol block with 135kW and 290Nm, which is transmitted to all four wheels via an intelligent “XWD” (X Wheel Drive) system that can switch between two- and four-wheel-drive on the fly.

It’s also 4,785mm in length, 2,006mm in width, and 1,870mm in height, making it comparable to something like the Jeep Wrangler.

Past 2025, details on Jetour’s other models are far more scarce, as none of cars confirmed for South Africa have been launched anywhere in the world as of the time of writing.

The first is the T1, which as its name implies, should slot below the T2 in the automaker’s 4×4 roster when it lands in 2026.

The T1 has yet to go on sale, but a pre-production example shown at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show was fitted with a 450kW hybrid drivetrain comprising a 1.5-litre petrol plant and an electric motor, according to CarNewsChina.

It’s also not that much smaller than the T2, measuring 4,706mm (L) by 1,967mm (W) by 1,845mm (H).

Also arriving in 2026 is the T5, which will naturally assume a higher position in Jetour’s Adventure SUV series.

Like the T1, it has only been showcased as a pre-production exhibit in Beijing, but this was enough to get a sense of how big the 4×4 will be.

Once again, a scoop from CarNewsChina indicates that the T5 is 5,403mm (L) by 2,050mm (W) by 1,936mm (H), making it even larger than something like the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 or the Nissan Patrol.

It features a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and two electric motors, which will reportedly produce a combined 560kW and 795Nm.

The final two cars will only appear in 2027, which isn’t surprising given that they currently seem to be in the earliest stages of development.

However, South Africans will be happy to know that one of these vehicles will be a brand-new bakkie called the P5.

This will be the first time that Jetour is entering the pickup market, and the P5 will be a midsize example similar to local favourites like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, or Isuzu D-Max.

The bakkie will also use a PHEV system, though its technical attributes have yet to be disclosed.

No official images of the P5 have been shared online, but the company did show a teaser of the double cab during a presentation at its launch event in Sandton.

The final model will be the T0, which has only been mentioned by name and does not even have any concept art or 3D renderings yet.

Presumably, this will serve as the entry-level model to the T-badged range based on its designation, but it will likely be some time before we hear anything regarding its specifications.

The T0 will go on sale in 2027, by which point Jetour will have at least two urban SUVs, four Adventure 4x4s, and a double-cab bakkie in its South African showrooms.
