New Tata Harrier goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Tata has finally announced the pricing for the new Harrier SUV – the fourth and final model in its new selection of passenger cars.

The Harrier is the flagship of the Indian carmaker’s new stable, slotting above the Tiago hatchback, Punch crossover, and Curvv crossover coupe.

It is available in three specifications, and prices start at R549,900.

Engine

The Harrier gets its motivation from a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 125kW and 350Nm.

This is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 6.6l/100km.

All three versions of the car come with paddle shifters, allowing for better control of the gear changes.

Features

The Harrier is classified as a midsize SUV, measuring 4,605mm long, 1,718mm tall, and 2,131mm wide.

Visually, the car is defined by a studded front grille divided by a body-colour line stretching between the fog lamps.

It also has a horizontal daytime running light bar, which seamlessly merges with the slim LED headlights.

A similar motif can be seen at the back with a horizontal taillight bar that stretches across the boot door.

The base “Pure +” model comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel with an illuminated logo, fabric seats, automatic climate control with rear vents, a 45W USB Type C charging port, six speakers, voice assist, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Tata also includes a number of safety and assistance items such as electronic stability control, ABS, hill assist, ISOFX child seat mounts, cruise control, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring, and six airbags.

Upgrading to the mid-range “Adventure +” will add larger 18-inch alloys, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, an electric park brake, front parking sensors, an air purification system, a front armrest with a cooled storage area, a rear armrest, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, leatherette upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof.

It also adds a Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Suite) with a 360-degree camera, lane-keep assist, blind spot detection, traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, and driver drowsiness monitoring.

At the top of the range is the “Fearless +,” which throws in a two-tone roof, a six-way electronically adjustable driver’s chair with memory settings, a four-way electric front passenger chair, a nine-speaker JBL stereo with a subwoofer, ventilated front seats, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, Alexa Car2Home support, hill descent control, and a hands-free tailgate.

The boot can take 445 litres of luggage, but this increases to 815 litres when the back seats are folded.
