Cars that will no longer be sold in South Africa after 2025

At least 16 cars have been discontinued in South Africa in 2025.

While the year has welcomed in dozens of new models from various brands, coming in all shapes and sizes, it has also lost several notable entries.

In most cases, the loss of these cars can be attributed to low sales; however, in other instances, the discontinuation of certain products is part of the company’s broader plan to transition to new vehicle types.

Nowhere is this more prevalent than with Jaguar, which has scrapped its entire roster of combustion engine vehicles.

In late 2024, the luxury carmaker revealed its controversial rebranding campaign, marking its transition to a fully-electric lineup.

Jaguar has since unveiled its first prototype vehicle, known as the Type 00 Concept, and has ceased production of all its older models like the E-Pace and F-Type.

This means that, for the time being, Jaguar does not sell any new cars in South Africa, and motorists will have to wait and see what the company’s polarising rebrand has in store for markets around the globe.

Note that Jaguar Land Rover maintains a presence in South Africa through its Land Rover and Range Rover marques.

Maserati has done something similar this year, as it has pulled the Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte from showrooms this year, which will reportedly be replaced with new electric vehicles in the future.

Another interesting case is Audi, as the German automaker shut down the A4 series this year.

The A4 was one of Audi’s most popular offerings, but the company has elected to simplify its lineup across the board, resulting in the loss of multiple cars.

It plans to discontinue the A1 and Q2 in 2026, but this year marked the loss of the A4, which has effectively been replaced by the next-gen A5.

Other cars on the list are more straightforward, as Fiat and Ford have ended the run of the Tip and Puma due to low sales.

Fiat has a very small presence in South Africa so the former isn’t too surprising, but the Puma may come as a shock to some.

While the Puma was generally well-received by the public and the media, it was widely seen as too expensive to effectively compete in our market.

This means that Ford’s passenger car roster is now carried by the Territory SUV, though most of the Blue Oval’s sales come from the Ranger bakkie and Everest SUV.

Honda discontinued the Ballade and BR-V, and Lexus ended the run of the RC.

Toyota has also brought the axe down on two cars this year, namely the Corolla Quest and the Land Cruiser 79 V8.

The Quest was an affordable sedan that started at R336,000, but interest in mass-market sedans has faded over the last few years in favour of crossovers and SUVs.

The body type is now mainly associated with the e-hailing industry, and Toyota ultimately decided to pull the plug earlier this year.

Last up is the Land Cruiser, which used to be offered with a 4.5-litre turbocharged diesel V8, but this was dropped following the bakkie’s mid-life update.

Toyota South Africa Motors confirmed to Cars.co.za that it dropped the engine as part of a global directive to shift to newer, more efficient powertrains.

In any case, it’s a blow to Toyota fans, as the Japanese automaker no longer has any V8 options in South Africa.
