New BMW iX2 SUV for South Africa – Pricing and features

BMW has expanded its range of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in South Africa with the full-electric iX2 eDrive20 sports activity coupé.

The SUV joins the battery-electric (BEV) BMW iX1 xDrive30 and the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) BMW X1 xDrive30e as an entry-level new energy offering.

Ryan Warnasuriya, Product Manager for the BMW X1 and X2, explains that electrification has become a central pillar of BMW South Africa’s strategy to offer a sustainable, premium mobility experience across its portfolio.

“The BMW iX2 shows that no matter which battery-electric variant you might be in – even at the entry-level – you will be exposed to the premium technology people expect in a BMW model,” he says.

The SUV arrives in two derivatives – the iX2 eDrive20 and the iX2 eDrive20 M Sport – with a starting price of R1,300,000.

Electric powertrain

The electric SUV sports a front-mounted electric motor producing 150kW and 250Nm.

This enables a 0-100km/h acceleration time of only 8.8 seconds, while it is electronically limited to a 170km/h top speed.

In our market, the iX2’s 66.5 kWh battery can be recharged using 22kW AC charging or 130kW DC charging, giving the SUV an all-electric range up to 470km when fully charged.

Features

In terms of styling, the all-new BMW iX2 eDrive20 features the Munich-based carmaker’s iconic “Kidney Glow”, enclosed in its instantly recognisable mesh-design grille.

Further physical features include adaptive LED headlights, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, and a glass panoramic roof.

Inside, the iX2 has been fitted with electrically adjustable sport seats, wireless smartphone charging, and a range of driver comforts and conveniences.

According to the German carmaker, the electric SUV distinguishes itself with a wide array of standard-issue technological and comfort features.

BMW’s Driving Assist Professional system encompasses a suite of radar- and camera-based safety and driving features, including Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, and Speed Limit Info, with speed limits displayed in the instrument cluster.

Further driver assistance comes in the form of Parking Assist Plus, with surround view cameras for Active Park Distance Control and a Lateral Parking Aid.

Drivers can also take advantage of BMW’s customisable Head-Up Display to personalise their driving experience while adhering to the brand’s “eyes on the road, hands on the wheel” philosophy, thanks to critical information displayed on the windscreen.

Pricing

Prices for the two new electric BMW SUVs in South Africa are as follows:

These prices include a 2-year/unlimited km vehicle warranty, an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty, and a 5-year/100,000km BMW Motorplan.
