New 4×4 Isuzu mu-X arrives in South Africa – And it’s R150,000 cheaper
Isuzu Motors South Africa has announced the arrival of an all-wheel-drive version of its entry-level mu-X SUV, priced R150,000 lower than its previous cheapest 4×4.
Adding to the line-up and powertrain changes it made in May, the all-wheel-drive mu-X LS features the same 1.9-litre turbodiesel motor as the entry-level model, but with added off-road capability.
Priced at R789,700 – nearly R40,000 more than its 1.9-litre LS sibling – the new model is a whopping R149,800 cheaper than the 3.0-litre mu-X LS 4WD, which was the Japanese badge’s cheapest 4×4 SUV.
“The mu-X 1.9 LS 4×4 has been developed for customers who expect one vehicle to perform across every aspect of their lifestyle,” said Kevin Fouche, Department Executive for Product Planning and Programme Management at Isuzu Motors South Africa.
“Whether navigating city streets during the week or exploring South Africa’s diverse landscapes over the weekend, the MU-X delivers the capability, comfort and dependability that define the Isuzu brand.”
He added that the new model combines diesel efficiency, genuine four-wheel-drive capability, and practical features in a package built to go the distance.
Powertrain
The more affordable 4×4 is fitted with a refined 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine producing 110kW and 350Nm, and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
This configuration sends power to all four driven wheels when needed, and can achieve a claimed average fuel consumption of only 7.5l/100km.
As an adventure SUV, it maintains the generous 235mm of ground clearance and 800mm wading depth, with the 4×4 also able to tow up to 2,100kg like its siblings.
Features
With its exterior styling unchanged since the latest facelift, the new mu-X also features a seven-seat cabin with partial leather trim.
In the front row, there is a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, while the second and third rows feature flexible and practical seating configurations.
As with most modern SUVs, the new mu-X is well-equipped in terms of tech, with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity.
It also features Wi-Fi connectivity for all occupants, as well as front and rear USB charging ports.
In terms of safety features, the 1.9 LS 4×4 is fitted with a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety features.
These include an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist and seven airbags.
